About the Study Abroad Program I have been accepted into the University of Notre Dame's study abroad program in Nagoya, Japan for the Spring 2010 semester. This page gives information on the program. Program Overview | Financial Charges | Estimated Figures Received Financial Aid | Amount Needed Program Overview:::: The spring semester program lasts from the middle of January 2010, to around the end of May 2010 (about 4 months). Classes---which include intensive Japanese language through the Center for Japanese Studies, and 3-4 other Asian-context courses---are taken at Nanzan University, a prestigious Catholic university located in Nagoya. I will be living with a host family during my stay. Living with a Japanese family will give me the best insight of how a typical Japanese family would live and function, and it will be an excellent opportunity to observe, while simultaneously interacting and learning Japanese. (Back to top)
Financial Charges:::: The tuition for the program is equivilant to Notre Dame tuition (in this case, for one semester). Since I am a Saint Mary's student, my Saint Mary's scholarships do not apply towards paying for this tuition; only scholarships given by state government can be transferred to the University of Notre Dame. This leaves a large balance that I will owe to Notre Dame in order to participate. There is also an international program fee, equivilant to Notre Dame's on-campus room and board, and an international studies fee. Additionally, transportation costs from my home town to the gateway city need to be covered. According to Notre Dame's Office of International Studies, the tuition and international program fee cover the following:
Estimated Figures:::: Program fees are posted on Notre Dame's financial aid website.
Received Financial Aid:::: This is the amount of financial aid I receive from state grants and federal loans, that can be transfered to ND.
Amount Needed:::: I will need $15,618 in order to study abroad.
